PHYSIOTHERAPY
The primary function of Physiotherapy is the restoration of
the patient's function. Physiotherapists assess and diagnose
the physical problem, then plan and administer treatment programs
that aim to restore normal function or minimize dysfunction
after injury or disease.
Physiotherapists
strive to improve an individual's total quality of life by physical
means. A combination of education, manipulative therapy, splinting,
movement training, exercise, respiratory techniques and other
physical and electrotherapeutic agents are used to achieve this.
Physiotherapy
is concerned with:
Assessing,
treating and preventing human movement disorders
Restoring
normal function or minimizing dysfunction in adults and children
with physical impairment, to enable them to achieve the highest
possible level of independence in their lives.
Preventing
recurring and disability in the workplace, at home, or during
recreational activities
Promoting
public health for all age groups.

Skilled evaluation
skilled hands-on therapy such as mobilization, manipulation,
massage and acupressure
Individually
designed exercise programmes, relaxation techniques, sophisticated
equipment, hydrotherapy and biofeedback
Specialized
electrotherapy equipment, heat, ice and traction to relieve
pain and assist healing and recovery
Suitable
walking aids, splints and appliances

home management programmes
MISSION
To provide a comprehensive and holistic, efficient and effective
physiotherapy service by adopting the elements of Corporate
Culture i.e. teamwork, caring and professionalism: with latest
phyitherapeutic technology and skills to maximize independency
and minimizing disability.
OBJECTIVES
1. To provide evidence based comprehensive, holistic and clinically
effective physiotherapy treatment, to the clients based on Standard
Physiotherapy Practice.
2. To plan for a suitable rehabilitative programmed, using the
latest physiotherapeutic technology and skills to achieve a
high level of independency within the limit of disability.
3. To expand and extend Physiotherapy service to the community
to enhance quality life based on promotive, preventive, rehabilitative
and curative medicine.

Musculoskeletal/
Orthopedic: Assessment, education and treatment of patients
with all types of musculoskeletal disorders. Individual or class
formats.
Neurological: A short term program of rehabilitation for patients
with central nervous system injury, whose needs cannot be met
by other community services.
Pelvic
Floor Dysfunction: Retraining of pelvic floor musculature is
available for patients with urinary or faecal incontinence,
following multiple childbirths, prolapse uterus etc.
Pulmonary
Rehabilitation Exercise Class: A multidisciplinary program,
in which physiotherapists provide the exercise component, for
patients with COPD & respirative lung diseases.
Respiratory
Management: Available to patients with a variety of conditions,
particularly bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis. Emphasis is
placed on teaching patients to be independent in their own management.
Vascular
Rehabilitation Exercise Class: A twelve week multidisciplinary
program, in which physiotherapists provide the exercise component,
for patients with intermittent claudication from peripheral
arterial disease.
Burns
: Ongoing management, incorporating exercise and scar management
for patients with loss of functional movement and scarring following
burn injury.
Cardiac
Rehabilitation Exercise Class: Physiotherapists provide the
exercise component for patients following myocardial infraction
or cardiac surgery.
Cognitive
Behavioural Pain Management Program: A clinical Psychologist
and a physiotherapist, addressing the physical and psychological
components of pain and its management.
Hand
Therapy: In close co-operation with the Occupational Therapy,
assessment and rehabilitation is provided for patients with
disorders of, or following trauma/ surgery to, the hand and
upper limb.
Lower
Limb Amputees: Assessment, education, advice, exercise prescription
and therapy, bandaging and use of pressure garments for certain
patients with lymphoedema of the arm, leg or trunk.
